The star of “White Lotus” Tom Hollander, not to be mistaken with “Spider-Man” actor Tom Holland, claimed that a tiny error had resulted in a seven-figure bonus that was not his. Hollander said that Holland was the intended recipient of the funds that he received.

During an appearance on “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” the host questioned Hollander about whether the 27-year-old is ever confused with Holland. Hollander, 56, said, “Yes, it’s been very difficult because I was here first.”

He said that often, kids get eager to see him and mistake him for the “Spider-Man” actor, but they end up being let down when they really see him.

However, one misstep with Holland sticks out. “People in the accounts department of my agency got confused – and we were with the same agency, briefly,” Hollander said. “It was a terrible moment.”

From BBC Gigs to Avengers’ Riches: The Accidental Seven-Figure Email shocked Tom Hollander

According to Hollander, the mix-up occurred when he was seeing a buddy act in a play in the United Kingdom.

“I sat smugly in the audience just having done a BBC show for $30,000,” says the comedian. “After a little while, I checked my email. “Payment advice slip: Your first box office bonus for ‘The Avengers,'” I received an email stating.

According to Hollander, it was more money than he had ever seen. Holland’s bonus is granted in addition to his pay and is often dependent on the box office success of a movie. “The amount was seven figures,” he stated. “I think he was twenty. My sense of self-satisfaction so vanished. But that’s the entertainment industry. It is zero, it’s zero, it’s up, and it’s down.”

“You’re always one email away from having your whole life turned upside-down,” Meyers said.

Holland has been playing Spider-Man ever since he made a cameo in the Marvel movie “Captain America: Civil War” in 2016. The superhero flicks are renowned for being big box office hits. The biggest earning film in the series is “Avengers: Endgame,” which stars a number of superheroes. The 2019 motion picture brought in about $858 million.

“Spider-Man: No Way Home” is the franchise’s second-highest earner. The Holland-starring film from 2021 made almost $800 million in revenue.

Hollander, well known for movies such as “Pride and Prejudice” and “The Loop,” most recently portrayed the antagonist in the second season of HBO’s successful show “White Lotus,” and he is presently starring in the television series “Feud: Capote vs. The Swans,” in which he plays Truman Capote.
