As the general election race between Donald Trump and Joe Biden gets closer, both candidates have hosted campaign events in the US state of Georgia.
Trump Vs Biden Campaign Clashes in Georgia
Thursday’s State of the Union address was called a “angry, dark, and hate-filled rant” by the 77-year-old former president.
An hour later, President Biden, who is 81 years old, announced new support as he attacks his opponent.
At this point, both guys are very close to getting the presidential bids from their parties.
Delegate Race Heats Up
That being said, Mr. Trump only needs 139 more votes to be sure of the Republican nomination. He already has 1,076 delegates. There are 1,859 delegates that Mr. Biden has secured, which is 109 less than he needs to win the Democratic ticket.
In primary races on Tuesday, including in Georgia, each man has a chance to finish the job.
Their shadow-boxing match on Saturday comes just two days after Mr. Biden harshly criticized his predecessor’s words and actions in his State of the Union speech to Congress.
Mr. Trump criticized his “grossly incompetent” opponent for giving “the most divisive, partisan, and radical speech ever delivered by a president in that chamber” while he was in Rome in Rome, in the northwest of Italy.
“Joe Biden should not be shouting angrily at America,” he said.
“America should be shouting angrily at Joe Biden.”
Immigration and Campaign Strategy
He also spoke out about border security and the murder of Laken Riley last month, a college student from Georgia who was reportedly killed by an illegal immigrant.
A Gallup study that came out last month says that immigration is now the biggest issue for people in the US.
The former president promised to “demand justice for Laken” and “seal the border” as fans held up pictures of Ms. Riley and her family and friends who were there.
He also criticized Mr. Biden for taking back what he said about the suspect during the State of the Union address, in which he called him “an illegal.” In an interview with MSNBC, the president said he felt bad that he hadn’t used the word “undocumented,” which is what Democrats wanted to use.
Mr. Biden said the offensive thing while he was talking to Marjorie Taylor Greene, a close Trump supporter who gathered with Mr. Trump on Saturday in Rome, the city where she lives and serves in Congress.
About an hour’s drive away, in Atlanta, the capital city, Mr. Biden told fans, “Who someone hangs out with can tell you a lot about them.”
He said that Mr. Trump was “sucking up to wannabe dictators and authoritarian thugs all over the world” because he had met Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban at his home in Florida on Friday.
The president said that the general election in November was “a contest between competing forces in a battle for the soul of this nation.” He also said that Mr. Trump’s “story of resentment, revenge, and retribution” was not in the best interests of voters.
More than 32 million Americans watched the State of the Union on TV, which caused a lot of talk. Now, Mr. Biden’s campaign for re-election is going on the attack.
On Friday, he went to Pennsylvania, which is a swing state, and next week he will hold rallies in Michigan and Wisconsin. Members of his staff are also traveling all over the country. “We will greatly increase the number of volunteers we have, greatly increase the number of people working on the ground, start our coalition groups, and spend money on new paid media campaigns,” said Julie Chavez Rodriguez, campaign manager.
There is one of these ads that was released earlier on Saturday and will be shown to voters in seven swing states over the next six weeks. It directly answers worries about his age.
“Look, I’m not a young guy, that’s not a secret,” it starts. Then it says that the politician’s years of experience have helped him “understand how to get things done for the American people.”
When Mr. Biden spoke in Atlanta on Saturday, the crowd was small but excited. People were holding up signs that said “we’re on board” and were handed out by event organizers.
Three political action groups officially backed the campaign at the event. The groups will spend $30 million (£23.3 million) to get black, Latino, and Asian people to vote for the Democrat.
A lot of what the president said in his scathing speech on Capitol Hill came up in his speech. He spoke with a newfound energy that seems to have permeated his whole style.
It will be hard to keep up that pace for the next eight months, but it’s not a surprise that his most recent tit-for-tat with Mr. Trump happened in Georgia.
Based on how their 2020 election went, the southern state has the fewest votes of any in the country. It was close, but Mr. Biden won by less than 12,000 votes.
He won in large part because almost nine out of ten black voters backed him. However, new polls show that many black voters are not excited about Mr. Biden’s campaign, which is a cause for concern.
Mr. Trump is ahead in the polls, but he also has issues. There is one criminal case against him in Georgia that could go to trial before the election. He is being charged with 13 felonies for allegedly trying to undo his loss in Georgia in 2020.
In short, both of these guys are thinking about Georgia, and the outcome of that election could make or break their chances of winning in November.
